History of Chail

Located at an altitude of 2,250 meters above sea level, Chail was once the summer capital of Maharaja Patiala. In 1891, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh built a palace here as a gift for his beloved wife Rani Rajinder Kaur—which later became known as the Chail Palace Hotel.

After it was abandoned in 1947 due to political turmoil in India, it was converted into a hotel in 1971 and has been open ever since. The palace also houses two temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu respectively.  Additionally, there are many other historical sites such as Gurdwara Sahib Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Kali ka Tibba nearby worth exploring!
